Antalya's best base-camp advantage
Antalya's real strength as a base is how much sits within reach of a single day: Roman theatres, mountaintop ruins, canyons and even Pamukkale's travertine terraces, if you're willing to make a long day of it. Here are the trips worth your time, roughly ordered by ease.
Easy half-day trips

Old harbour boat tripA relaxed half-day on the water, past the Lower Düden Falls and along the coastline, departing right from Kaleiçi.
PergeA sprawling, walkable Roman city about 40 minutes east — a colonnaded street, stadium and baths, usually quiet outside peak tour times.
TermessosA dramatic mountaintop city inside a national park, never conquered by Rome — a steeper walk than Perge, and worth it for the setting alone.

The long day: Pamukkale
Pamukkale's white travertine terraces and the ruins of Hierapolis above them are genuinely spectacular, but they're roughly 3–3.5 hours from Antalya each way by road. Almost everyone does this as either a long organised day tour (often starting very early) or, better, an overnight trip that breaks the drive up and allows time at the site without rushing.
