Not a day trip — plan it properly
Cappadocia, famous for its hot-air balloon rides over a landscape of eroded volcanic rock and cave dwellings, is genuinely one of Turkey's must-see regions — but it's roughly 400–500 km from Antalya by road, well beyond day-trip range. If it's on your list, treat it as a separate leg of your trip, not an add-on.
How to get from Antalya to Cappadocia
Why it's worth the extra leg
- Hot-air balloon flights: the signature experience — hundreds of balloons lifting at sunrise over the valleys is genuinely unlike anything on the coast.
- Cave hotels: much of Cappadocia's accommodation is carved into or built to resemble the region's distinctive rock formations — part of the experience in itself.
- Underground cities: multi-level ancient underground complexes at Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı, used historically as refuges — a completely different kind of history from Antalya's coastal ruins.
- Hiking: valleys like Rose Valley and Love Valley offer some of Turkey's most distinctive landscape hiking.
