Current status: Tünektepe is closed
Do not plan a cable-car ride at Tünektepe right now. The Sarısu–Tünektepe line has been closed since the serious cable-car accident of 12 April 2024. In April 2026, reporting from an Antalya Metropolitan Municipality council meeting said the cable ropes were to be removed while the site and its future were reassessed. There is no confirmed reopening date to build a holiday itinerary around.
This matters because old attraction listings, map profiles and travel pages can still show historic opening hours, ticket prices or a normal operating schedule. Treat those as legacy information unless Antalya Metropolitan Municipality announces a new operating arrangement.
Why it closed
The line connected the Sarısu area west of central Antalya with Tünektepe hill above the coast. On 12 April 2024, a cabin was involved in a fatal accident that also left passengers stranded on the line during a major rescue operation. The service was shut afterwards. The legal and technical aftermath continued into 2026, so the old advice to simply check the day's hours is no longer adequate.
You do not need the accident details to plan a trip, but you do need the practical consequence: there is currently no public Tünektepe cable-car ride to schedule.
Best alternatives for the view
Tünektepe is not Tahtalı
The names are easy to confuse in search results. Tünektepe is the closed city-side line that rose from Sarısu. Tahtalı, commonly marketed as Olympos Teleferik, is a different cable car near Kemer that climbs to a high mountain summit. If you see a current Antalya cable-car tour with transfers, check which one the operator means before booking.
Tahtalı is a considerably bigger excursion: the summit is high enough for temperatures and wind to differ sharply from the coast, and cloud can hide the view. It is not a like-for-like replacement for a quick city viewpoint, but it is the practical choice if riding a cable car is itself the goal.
If Tünektepe is rebuilt or reopens
Use a fresh municipal or operator announcement before restoring it to your itinerary. A genuine reopening should come with current service details such as operating days, ticketing, access to the upper facilities and any weather or maintenance restrictions. Do not rely on pre-2024 prices or timetables.
Until that happens, keep your Antalya plan simple: use the city's free clifftop and beach viewpoints for sunset, or make a deliberate trip toward Kemer for Tahtalı.
