Upper and Lower Düden are two different visits
Düden Waterfalls is an easy name to misunderstand because Antalya has two separate visitor experiences on the same river system. Upper Düden (Yukarı Düden) is an inland waterfall park where you walk close to the water. Lower Düden (Aşağı Düden/Karpuzkaldıran) is the coastal finale where the river drops roughly 40 metres from the Lara cliffs into the Mediterranean. Choose them for different reasons rather than expecting two versions of the same stop.
Upper Düden: the walk-through waterfall park
Upper Düden is the better choice if you want shade, moving water at close range and a compact nature stop rather than a distant viewpoint. Paths and viewpoints take you around the falls, with wet rock and spray close to the water. Antalya’s official Antalyakart system announced in August 2026 that Antalyakart can now be used for entry at Upper Düden, so check the current municipal/Antalyakart information for admission and payment rather than relying on an old cash-only or fixed-price claim.
Allow extra care with children or anyone unsteady on slippery surfaces. Shoes with grip are far more useful than beach footwear, and a phone or camera should be protected from spray if you plan to use the closest viewpoints.
Lower Düden: the cliff-to-sea spectacle
Lower Düden is about scale and setting. Türkiye’s Culture Portal places it about 8 km from central Antalya on the Lara side, where the river drops roughly 40 metres into the sea. The clifftop park is the straightforward land-based viewpoint and includes parking/picnic facilities; boat trips approach the falls from the water for the classic cliff-face view.
You do not need a boat to say you have visited Lower Düden. The park gives a strong free/low-friction look from above; a boat is an optional different angle and makes most sense if a harbour cruise is already part of your itinerary.

Getting there without overcomplicating it
Both sites are served by Antalya’s urban transport network and are also straightforward by taxi. They are not a sensible walk from Kaleiçi. For buses/trams and payment products, use current Antalyakart routing information because line numbers and service patterns can change. If self-driving, treat Lower Düden as the easier quick stop; Upper Düden is the place where you are more likely to spend real time walking the park.
Can you do both in one day?
Yes, but only do it if waterfalls are genuinely a priority. A private car/taxi makes the two-site sequence simple; public transport adds more transfer time. Most visitors get more from choosing one waterfall and combining it with a different Antalya experience — Upper Düden plus Kaleiçi or Lower Düden plus Lara/boat trip — rather than spending a large part of the day moving between two related sites.
Season, rain and waterfall flow
Waterfall appearance varies with rainfall and river conditions. Antalya’s wetter winter/early-spring period can produce a more forceful spectacle, while summer still provides the core experience but may look different. Avoid promising a specific flow level from an old photo. After major rain, prioritise path safety at Upper Düden and weather/sea conditions if considering a boat at Lower Düden.
Accessibility and family planning
Lower Düden’s park viewpoint is generally the simpler choice for a traveller who wants the spectacle without wet, uneven close-up paths. Upper Düden involves more walking and potentially slippery surfaces. Families should keep children close around wet edges and viewpoints; travellers with limited mobility should check current park access before committing to the full Upper Düden circuit.
Photography: choose the angle first
For Lower Düden, the boat angle shows the full cliff drop while the park angle is easier and lets you frame the coastline. At Upper Düden, wide-angle views work from the main paths, while close viewpoints mean spray on lenses. Midday light can be harsh; morning or later afternoon is usually easier for both photography and walking comfort in warm months.

- Putting “Düden Waterfalls” into a map without checking whether the result is Upper or Lower.
- Booking a boat because a guide implies it is the only way to see Lower Düden.
- Wearing slick footwear at Upper Düden.
