Official monthly temperature normals

For this page I use the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM) rather than a generic weather app. Its official Antalya 1991–2020 climate normals put average daytime highs at 15.0°C in January, 26.4°C in May, 34.9°C in July and August, and 27.3°C in October. These are planning averages, not a forecast for the week you travel.

January & February: mild days, real winter weather

Antalya is not a winter-sun guarantee. The official averages are mild by northern-European standards, but nights are cool and winter is the wetter part of the Mediterranean pattern. I would pack a proper light rain shell, closed shoes and layers rather than turning up with beachwear only. The upside is excellent walking weather between wet spells and far less punishing heat at archaeological sites.

March & April: the city becomes a walking trip again

March averages 18.4°C by day and April 21.8°C. This is one of my favourite planning windows for travellers who care more about Kaleiçi, Perge, Termessos and long outdoor days than warm-water swimming. Mornings and evenings still justify a layer, and an April hot spell can feel much warmer than the monthly average, so check the short-range forecast before a hike.

May: the easy all-rounder

May's official average high is 26.4°C, which is warm enough for a resort-style day without yet carrying the relentless midsummer heat. For a mixed itinerary — old town, ruins, waterfalls, beach time and a road trip — this is the month I would circle first if school-holiday dates are not driving the decision.

June: summer arrives properly

June jumps to a 31.6°C average high. Move exposed ruins, canyon walks and long old-town wandering to the morning, and use the hottest part of the day for lunch, a shaded courtyard, a museum that is open, or a beach setup where you can cool off. A reusable water bottle, sun hat and high-protection sunscreen become basic kit rather than optional extras.

July & August: plan around heat, not through it

MGM's normal average high is 34.9°C in both July and August, with average lows above 23°C. That means the heat does not simply disappear after sunset. I would not schedule Termessos, Perge or a full exposed walking itinerary around midday. Split the day: early outdoor sightseeing, a long shaded/indoor middle, then the harbour, beach or dinner after the worst heat has passed.

September & October: strong shoulder-season months

September still averages a hot 31.7°C, while October eases to 27.3°C. September suits travellers who want summer conditions without choosing the absolute peak of July/August; October is better for combining coast and culture. Neither figure promises a dry week, so treat the climate normal as context and the near-term forecast as the decision tool.

November & December: city break, not guaranteed beach holiday

Average highs fall to 21.6°C in November and 16.7°C in December. I would frame these months around food, old-town atmosphere, easy day trips and opportunistic sunshine rather than building the trip around swimming. Layers matter more than a giant winter coat, but wet and windy spells can change the feel quickly.

How to use this page without fooling yourself

Climate averages answer “what is this month normally like?” They do not answer “will it rain next Tuesday?” Before any heat-sensitive hike, boat day or exposed archaeological visit, I check the current MGM forecast again. That is especially important in summer heat and during winter stormy spells.
