The case for visiting in winter
Antalya's winter (November–March) rules out swimming for most visitors, but it's genuinely underrated for everything else: mild daytime temperatures by northern European standards, the lowest prices of the year, empty ancient sites, and an old town without a single tour group crowding the lanes.
What the weather is actually like
Daytime highs typically run 15–18°C (59–64°F), rarely dropping below 10°C (50°F) even at night — genuinely mild compared to most of Europe in the same months, though noticeably wetter than the rest of the year. What works well in winter
Kaleiçi, without the crowds
The old town's lanes and the harbour are dramatically quieter — the closest you'll get to having Hadrian's Gate to yourself.
Ancient sites at their best
Aspendos, Perge and Termessos are far more comfortable to explore without summer heat, and without competing for space with tour groups.
The lowest prices of the year
Flights and accommodation both drop substantially outside the swim season, making winter the best-value time to visit by a clear margin.
Antalya Museum & indoor options
A good season to lean into museum time and covered attractions like the Antalya Aquarium.
What doesn't work
- Swimming: the sea is too cool for most people to enjoy, and beach clubs largely wind down for the season.
- Some resort hotels close: particularly larger all-inclusive properties geared entirely around the beach; check specific hotel operating dates before booking a winter stay.
- Shorter daylight hours: plan outdoor sightseeing with this in mind, particularly for anything involving a longer walk like Termessos.
Our take: if swimming isn't the point of your trip, winter is arguably the single best-value time to see Antalya's history and old town — just base yourself in Kaleiçi rather than a beach resort, since many of the latter reduce services out of season.
