Why a boat trip is worth considering
Antalya's cliff-backed coastline looks completely different from the water. For visitors staying in or near Kaleiçi, the easiest version is a sightseeing cruise from the old harbour below the old town. GoTürkiye specifically notes that excursion boats from Kaleiçi Marina normally approach Lower Düden (Aşağı Düden) Waterfall, where the Düden River drops from Antalya's coastal cliffs into the Mediterranean.
That makes a harbour cruise useful even if you are not normally a “boat tour” person: the waterfall is the clear sightseeing payoff, while the rest of the trip is about sea views, a slower afternoon and—depending on the operator—swimming or sunset time.
Choose the trip by atmosphere, not the sales pitch

Do not assume a boat with the longest itinerary is automatically better. A heavily marketed “full day” can include hotel pickups, waiting and a party atmosphere that is completely different from a small coastal cruise.
Seeing Lower Düden from the sea
Lower Düden is the strongest reason to choose a Kaleiçi departure. The official GoTürkiye Antalya guide describes the waterfall as dropping roughly 40 metres from the cliffs into the sea and says tour boats from the marina usually come close to it. The clifftop park gives a good land view, but the boat angle reveals the full cliff face and the scale of the drop.
How to compare operators
- Departure point: confirm the exact harbour or marina; not every Antalya-area cruise starts in Kaleiçi.
- Actual route: ask what landmarks and bays are reached, not just how many hours the excursion is advertised for.
- Boat size and music: a large entertainment boat and a small family cruise can share the same route but feel like completely different activities.
- Swimming: ask how many stops are planned and whether sea conditions can cancel them.
- Food and drinks: check what is genuinely included and whether outside water is permitted.
- Transfers: if you are staying in Lara, Belek, Side or Kemer, hotel collection may add substantial road time.
Buying directly at the old harbour can work well for flexible travellers because you can see the vessel and compare operators. Booking ahead makes more sense if you need a specific private boat, accessibility arrangement, family setup or peak-season date.
Weather, sea state and cancellations
Antalya can be sunny while the sea is still choppy. Wind and local marine conditions matter more to a small sightseeing boat than the temperature shown in a normal weather app. Treat the operator's day-of decision seriously and avoid building a tight non-refundable schedule around a cruise if conditions look marginal.
If you are prone to motion sickness, a shorter morning or sunset cruise is usually a more conservative choice than a full day offshore. Sit where there is fresh air, avoid starting dehydrated, and bring any medication you normally use rather than relying on finding it once aboard.
Swim stops and water safety
Swim stops are operator- and condition-dependent. Use the ladder or entry point the crew designates, stay within the area they indicate and do not jump from upper decks unless the crew explicitly permits it. Strong swimmers still need to account for waves, boat movement and other vessels.
For children, ask about correctly sized flotation equipment before departure. Families who mainly want a calm sightseeing loop may be happier choosing a smaller boat and treating swimming as optional.

A boat can be an excellent family half-day because there is little walking, but choose for pace. Ask about shade, toilets, railings, flotation gear, loud music and how easy it is to board with a young child. A smaller or quieter boat is often worth more to a family than extra inclusions on a larger party vessel.
With babies or toddlers, avoid making the hottest part of the day the centre of the outing. Shade on a boat moves and can disappear as the vessel changes direction, so sun protection needs to work even when the awning does not.
How to fit it into an Antalya day
The simplest pairing is Kaleiçi plus the harbour: explore the old town in the cooler morning, have lunch, then take a later cruise. Another option is to see Lower Düden from land on a different day so you get both perspectives without rushing.
If you are already planning a full-day cruise around Kemer, Kekova or Green Canyon, do not assume you also need a Kaleiçi boat. The old-harbour trip earns its place primarily through convenience and the sea-level view of Lower Düden.
