Konyaaltı is the city-beach compromise
Konyaaltı is the beach base I would shortlist when you want Antalya city and the coast in the same holiday. It sits west of the centre, with a long shoreline backed by the Beydağları mountains and a broad beach-park/promenade environment rather than an isolated resort strip.
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality currently describes the coast as roughly 7 km long and mostly small pebbles, with a public beach plus more than 30 separately operated beach sections. GoTürkiye likewise positions Konyaaltı as one of Antalya’s two main city beaches.

Pebbles change the beach day
Konyaaltı is not a soft-sand beach. The small-pebble shoreline can be brilliantly clear-looking on calm days, but water shoes make entry and exit more comfortable for many travellers. If toddlers digging in sand is the picture in your head, compare Lara instead.
The upside is the setting: sea in front, mountains behind, and a long urban waterfront where you can move between public sections, cafés and beach businesses without being tied to one resort.
Who Konyaaltı suits
- Independent travellers: good if you want restaurants, a promenade and a normal city neighbourhood around the beach.
- Couples: strong fit for a sunset walk and an easy switch between beach time and city evenings.
- Families: practical if pebbles are not a problem and you value public space and nearby facilities.
- Old-town obsessives: Kaleiçi still wins if almost every evening and morning is meant to happen inside the historic centre.
Do not treat the whole 7 km as one neighbourhood
Where you stay along Konyaaltı matters. A hotel near the eastern/city end creates a different trip from one much farther west along the beach. Open the map and check your likely dinner spots, public-transport stops and the section of beach you actually expect to use.
This sounds obvious, but it prevents the classic accommodation mistake: booking “Konyaaltı” for city convenience and discovering your room is at the far end of the strip from everything you wanted to walk to.
Getting around without fake journey times
Konyaaltı is well connected to central Antalya, but I would not promise a fixed 10- or 15-minute trip. Road traffic, your exact beach section and construction can change the answer. Use current Antalya journey planning for public transport and treat taxis as a useful fallback rather than the only way to reach the old town.
For days built around Kaleiçi, start early and stay in the centre for dinner rather than bouncing back and forth. For beach-first days, do the opposite: keep the day on the western side and save the old town for another evening.
What sits naturally near a Konyaaltı stay
The beach itself is the main attraction, but this western-city base also pairs naturally with Antalya Aquarium and the Antalya Museum area. One important 2026 caveat: Antalya Museum is currently closed, so do not build a day around it until the Ministry’s museum page shows it reopened.
That is exactly why I prefer flexible area-based planning here. A beach, park and neighbourhood day survives a museum closure far better than a minute-by-minute itinerary.
Konyaaltı or Lara?
Choose Konyaaltı for pebble beach, mountain backdrop, public waterfront and city access. Choose Lara for a more sand-and-resort-led holiday. If you care most about historic atmosphere and walking out into old streets, choose Kaleiçi and visit either beach.

- Check the exact position along the beach, not only the district name.
- Decide whether pebbles are acceptable before booking a beach holiday.
- Look for the public-space and restaurant mix you actually want, not just a sea-view photo.
- Keep current museum/attraction status flexible around the beach plan.
- Compare Lara if young children and soft sand are non-negotiable.
Bottom line: Konyaaltı is Antalya’s strongest “beach without leaving the city” compromise. Its advantage is not isolation; it is being able to have a proper coastal day and still feel connected to urban Antalya.
